Football Recap: Mendota Takes a Loss

Mendota lost against Coalinga back in October of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Aztecs took a blow against the Horned Toads, falling 42-7. The Aztecs were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 28-7.

Coalinga's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Tyson Alvarado led the charge by rushing for 111 yards and two touchdowns on only ten carries. Alvarado also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, picking up two sacks and making four total tackles (3.0 for loss). Another player making a difference was Gracin Redding, who threw for 179 yards and three TDs while completing 85% of his passes.

This is the second loss in a row for Mendota and nudges their season record down to 4-4. As for Coalinga, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season.

Mendota has already played their next game, a 55-6 win against Avenal on the 24th. As for Coalinga, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 55-0 victory against Tranquillity on the 24th.
