Basketball Game Preview: Leake Central Gators vs. Morton Panthers

The Leake Central Gators will head out to square off against the Morton Panthers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Leake Central knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past 11 games -- so hopefully Morton likes a good challenge.

Leake Central fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Kosciusko on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 62-61 to the Whippets. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Gators came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 20th, while the Whippets are ranked 75th).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Morton). They snuck past Northeast Lauderdale with a 57-51 victory on Thursday.

Morton's win bumped their record up to 3-4. As for Leake Central, their loss dropped their record down to 11-3.

Leake Central took their victory against Morton in their previous matchup back in November by a conclusive 74-49. The rematch might be a little tougher for Leake Central since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
