Basketball Recap: Jemirah Brown and Layla Anderson Secure Win for Old Mill

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against South River, Old Mill was happy to have turned things around on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Arundel Wildcats, sneaking past 31-29. Given the Patriots' advantage in MaxPreps' Maryland basketball rankings (they are ranked 118th, while the Wildcats are ranked 247th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Old Mill to victory were Layla Anderson and Jemirah Brown. Anderson made all 6 shots she took racking up 14 points in addition to six boards and four steals, while Brown posted 11 points and five rebounds. Ricarie Naylor also deserves some recognition as she grabbed her first steal of the season.

Arundel's loss came despite strong showings from Logan Ferrell and Imani Monroe. Ferrell dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds, while Monroe scored five points along with nine boards and five steals.

Old Mill moved to 8-4 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Arundel, they are on a 14-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-13.

Old Mill didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 44-27 defeat against Severna Park on the 24th. Arundel has also already played their next contest, a 64-14 loss against Broadneck on the 24th.
