Central City/Centura extended their winning streak to six on Thursday, bumping their season record up to 6-0 in the process. They blew past the Fort Calhoun Pioneers 9-1. Fans of the Kernels have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

Jakob Ruhl made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and not a single walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one double.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mason Gorecki, who fired off two home runs and seven RBI while going 3-for-4. Those seven RBI gave him a new career-high. Barrett Fries was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

As for Fort Calhoun, the defeat snapped their winning streak at five games and leaves them with a 8-2 record. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

On Fort Calhoun's side, Kenny Wellwood made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was Wellwood's first of the season.

Central City/Centura wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, an 11-2 victory against Wahoo/Bishop Neumann on the 10th. As for Fort Calhoun, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, an 8-4 loss against Gross Catholic on the 12th.
