Basketball Recap: Young Women's Leadership Academy Now 3-1 over Last Four Games

Young Women's Leadership Academy's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Tuesday. They came out on top against the KIPP Somos Collegiate Tigers by a score of 44-36. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Cardinals also won the last time the pair played back in November of 2023.

KIPP Somos Collegiate's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Elizabeth Pena, who posted 15 points. That was a full 41.7% of KIPP Somos Collegiate's points, marking the third time in a row she's put up more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was TyKirah Steele, who had nine points.

Young Women's Leadership Academy is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 4-16 record this season. As for KIPP Somos Collegiate, their record is now 5-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Young Women's Leadership Academy will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Marion at 6:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025. As for KIPP Somos Collegiate, they will head out on the road to face off against IDEA Burke College Prep at 6:15 p.m. on Thursday.
