Baseball Game Preview: Chicago University Maroons vs. Grayslake Central Rams

Chicago University hasn't had much luck against Grayslake Central recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. Chicago University will be playing in front of their home fans against Grayslake Central at 11:00 a.m.

Chicago University will face Grayslake Central after dropping another heartbreaker against DePaul College Prep on Wednesday, which marked the second time in a row the team's come within 2.1 of beating them. Chicago University came up short against DePaul College Prep, falling 10-2. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Maroons couldn't push the score so high this time.

Meanwhile, Grayslake Central put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Calhoun a 10-0 shutout. That's two games straight that the Rams have won by exactly ten runs.

Luke Eckenstahler looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits.

On the hitting side, Grayslake Central let Cal Hanson and Beckham Stone run wild. Hanson went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Stone went 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most runs Hanson has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Trevor Meathe, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

Grayslake Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Grayslake Central's victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Chicago University, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.

Chicago University suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Grayslake Central in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can Chicago University avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
