Baseball Recap: Carlin Comes Up Short

Carlin extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 33 on Friday, dropping their season record down to 0-14 in the process. They came up short against the Smith Valley Bulldogs, falling 25-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Railroaders of the 15-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

As for Smith Valley, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 6-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 19.0 runs over those games.

For Smith Valley's part, Luke Lannom made a big impact no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Lannom was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and two doubles. He has been hot, having also posted at least one stolen base the last five times he's played.

In other batting news, Smith Valley got a massive performance out of Wyatt Wulfing, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Wulfing is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played. Brysen Walston also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

While Carlin had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
