Softball Recap: Ira's Win on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Ira proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by six) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Westbrook Wildcats, sneaking past 14-13. This was a revenge game for the Bulldogs: when they faced off against the Wildcats last Tuesday, they had to take a 16-2 loss.

The team relied heavily on Kelcee Kemp, who scored four runs and stole three bases while going 5-for-5. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Makali Pechacek was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.

Ira always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .591. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Westbrook only posted an OBP of .389.

The victory (which was Ira's third in a row) raised their record to 10-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Westbrook, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 7-9.

Looking ahead, Ira will be playing at home against Lubbock Christian at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles will roll in looking for their 11th straight victory, something the Bulldogs surely won't give up without a fight. Westbrook does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
