Volleyball Recap: Sarasota Military Academy Starts Season with Win at Home

Sarasota Military Academy took care of business in their home opener (barely) on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Lakewood Ranch Preparatory Academy 3-2. For Sarasota Military Academy, this counts as revenge for the 3-1 win Lakewood Ranch Preparatory Academy walked away with the last time they faced one another back in October of 2024.

Sarasota Military Academy was actually outscored in aggregate across those five sets (111-103), but they still managed to win. The match finished with set scores of 27-25, 27-25, 15-25, 19-25, 15-11.

Sarasota Military Academy found their leader in sophomore Paytyn Lewis, who had 20 digs and three aces.

Lakewood Ranch Preparatory Academy's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Addison Orlando, who had 16 kills and four aces. Orlando has been hot recently, having posted two or more aces the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabriella Leo, who had five kills and five aces.

Sarasota Military Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-0 loss against Admiral Farragut on the 21st. As for Lakewood Ranch Preparatory Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 3-1 victory against The Classical Academy of Sarasota on the 21st.
