Basic and Rancho are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Wolves will take on the Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Basic is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Basic is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Nevada's top teams: Green Valley, who was ranked 15th at the time (Basic was ranked 20th). The Wolves lost 17-7 to the Gators on Thursday. The Wolves have struggled against the Gators recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive lost meeting.
Natalee Ramos was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Kilar, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs.
Meanwhile, with a playoff win on the line, Rancho rose to the challenge on Wednesday. They blew past the Rattlers 12-0. The result was nothing new for the Rams, who have now won eight games by six runs or more so far this season.
Brooklynn Braun made a splash while hitting and pitching. She kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 16 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Annalise Stout, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with six RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Alainna Weber, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base.
Rancho always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matchups.
Rancho has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games. As for Basic, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-11.
Rancho's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Basic hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .364. It's a different story for Rancho, though, as they've only averaged .252. Will they be able to contain Basic's hitters?
Basic came out on top in a nail-biter against Rancho in their previous meeting back in March, sneaking past 5-3. Will the Wolves repeat their success, or do the Rams have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
