Softball Game Preview: Erwin Warriors vs. West Henderson Falcons

Erwin is 1-9 against West Henderson since March of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Warriors will be playing in front of their home fans against the Falcons at 6:00 p.m. Erwin is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.4 runs per game this season.

On Tuesday, Erwin needed a bit of extra time to put away North Buncombe. They won by a run and slipped past the Black Hawks 3-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Warriors have posted since April 23, 2024.

Kylie Gingras spent all ten innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up 12 Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Dusty Chapman, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jessica Varillas, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for West Henderson, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Tuscola a 10-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Falcons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by ten runs or more this season.

West Henderson pushed their record up to 10-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Erwin, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 6-3.
