Soccer Game Preview: Barstow vs. Granite Hills

Barstow hasn't had much luck against Granite Hills recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Barstow Aztecs are taking a road trip to challenge the Granite Hills Cougars at 4:30 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

If Barstow beats Granite Hills with two goals on Wednesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. Barstow came out on top in a nail-biter against Silverado on Tuesday, sneaking past 2-1. The Aztecs found success even though the refs didn't miss a thing: three Barstow players were handed yellow cards.

Mina Attalla and Cornell Campbell scored both of Barstow's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 15 goals.

Meanwhile, Granite Hills hasn't lost a match since December 7, 2024, a trend which continued in their latest game on Friday. They never let Victor Valley onto the board and left with a 2-0 victory. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 82nd, while the Jackrabbits are ranked 922nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Granite Hills has also been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 14 of their last 16 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-1-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 47 goals over those 16 matches. As for Barstow, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-7-3.

Barstow came up short against Granite Hills when the teams last played two weeks ago, falling 4-2. Can Barstow avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
