Baseball Game Preview: Riverdale Falcons vs. Cory-Rawson Fighting Hornets

Riverdale is a perfect 5-0 against Cory-Rawson since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Saturday. The Falcons will head out on the road to square off against the Fighting Hornets at 9:00 a.m. Riverdale is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.

Riverdale managed to slip by Elmwood the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Falcons came up short against the Royals on Wednesday, falling 19-9. The Falcons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Kydin Reed was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs. He has become a key player for Riverdale: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-6 otherwise.

Meanwhile, Cory-Rawson fell victim to Hardin Northern and their airtight pitching crew on Friday. They lost 12-0 to the Polar Bears. The Fighting Hornets have struggled against the Polar Bears recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Cory-Rawson's loss dropped their record down to 2-10. As for Riverdale, their defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 8-7.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Riverdale has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Cory-Rawson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Everything went Riverdale's way against Cory-Rawson in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Riverdale made off with a 14-4 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
