Second-ranked Monarchs add five-star Oregon commit heading into 2022 season.

One of the best players in high school football is making the trip down the I-5 from Northern California to finish his career in SoCal. Five-star wide receiver Jurrion Dickey will play his senior season for Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) after leaving Valley Christian (San Jose) according to a report by Joseph Dycus of The Mercury News.

Dickey made a huge jump in 247Sports recent rankings update for the Class of 2023 and is now the 14th-rated player overall and second-rated wide receiver. He was selected to the 2021 MaxPreps Junior All-America second team after hauling in 78 receptions for 1,304 yards and 19 touchdowns for the Warriors. He added four interceptions on defense.

His addition is big for the Santa Ana power because the Monarchs lost their top three receiving leaders from last season because of graduation. C.J. Williams and Cooper Barkate combined for over 1,500 yards receiving and were the only two wideouts with more than five touchdown receptions.

Elijah Brown, the 2021 MaxPreps Sophomore Player of the Year, is under center and heads into his junior campaign 17-0 as a starter. He has thrown for 3,554 yards, 45 touchdowns and is completing over 72-percent of his passes during his career. Brown and Dickey instantly become one of the best quarterback/wide receiver duos in the nation.

Mater Dei begins the 2022 campaign at No. 2 in the MaxPreps Top 25 and adding Dickey is a huge bonus to a team with one of the top offensive lines in the country. B.J. Tolo, DeAndre Carter, Brandon Baker and Sione Tohi all return for the reigning MaxPreps National Champions.

The only team ranked ahead of the Monarchs is Trinity League rival St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.). This has turned into the best rivalry in high school football over the last decade and adding Dickey gives Mater Dei another big-time player in this monster showdown.

Dickey becomes the 16th Monarchs player rated as a three-star recruit or higher in either the Class of 2023 or 2024 according to 247Sports rankings. The Braves have 28. On top of all that, both teams are loaded with future stars in the Classes of 2025 and 2026.

Mater Dei opens its season on Aug.19 vs. West (Salt Lake City) before a huge back-to-back on the road at No. 6 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) on Aug. 26 and against No. 9 Centennial (Corona) on Sept. 2. The biggest game of the year takes place on Oct. 7 when the Monarchs face St. John Bosco at the Santa Ana Bowl.
