Basketball Game Preview: Mt. Vernon Rams vs. Cahokia Comanches

Mt. Vernon has gone 9-1 against Cahokia recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Mt. Vernon Rams will be home for the holidays to greet the Cahokia Comanches at 6:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Mt. Vernon has six straight wins, Cahokia has 16 straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the court.

Mt. Vernon is headed into the game having just posted their biggest victory since February 13th on Tuesday. They blew past Carbondale 68-40. The Rams have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matches by 21 points or more this season.

Melaina Zedalis continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 21 points and 12 boards. The contest was her fourth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Josie Shirley, who went 6 of 11 from beyond the arc on her way to 18 points and three steals.

Mt. Vernon smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That's the most offensive rebounds they've posted since back in February.

Meanwhile, Cahokia played a tough game on Wednesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were beaten by Jacksonville 74-16. The Comanches were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 39-13.

Mt. Vernon's win bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Cahokia, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-11.

Everything came up roses for Mt. Vernon against Cahokia in their previous matchup back in January, as the squad secured a 97-31 victory. In that matchup, Mt. Vernon amassed a halftime lead of 56-10, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Thursday.
