Preview: Mt. Zion Eagles vs. Christian Heritage Lions

The Mt. Zion Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Christian Heritage Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Mt. Zion is hoping to put an end to a five-game streak of away losses.

Last Friday, Mt. Zion was beaten by Heard County 42-13. Mt. Zion was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 35-0.

Despite the loss, Mt. Zion got a solid performance out of Sherrod Montgomery jr, who rushed for 118 yards and a touchdown while picking up 7.4 yards per carry.

Meanwhile, even though Asheville Christian Academy scored an imposing 33 points on Friday, Christian Heritage still came out on top. Christian Heritage took down Asheville Christian Academy 48-33. Christian Heritage pushed the score to 41-21 by the end of the third, a deficit Asheville Christian Academy cut but never quite recovered from.

Carter Triplett went supernova for Christian Heritage, throwing for 267 yards and five touchdowns while picking up 11.6 yards per attempt, and also rushing for 140 yards on only eight carries. Charlie Idom did his part to keep the secondary busy, picking up 144 receiving yards.

With Mt. Zion's loss and Heard County's win, both teams now sport identical 3-5 records.

Mt. Zion took their victory against Christian Heritage when the teams last played back in October of 2022 by a conclusive 33-10. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Christian Heritage's Eli Thomason, who rushed for 147 yards and a touchdown. Now that he won't be playing on Friday, will it be that much easier for Mt. Zion to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
