After both having extra time off, the Greenfield Bruins and the Everett Alvarez Eagles will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Greenfield is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.8 runs per game this season.
Greenfield took a loss when they played away from home last Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed last Friday. They won by a run and slipped past Rancho San Juan 4-3.
Fabian Gonzalez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits.

At the plate, Greenfield's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Nate Hernandez, who went 1-for-2 with three runs and one double. Those three runs gave Hernandez a new career-high.
Meanwhile, Everett Alvarez was not able to break out of their rough patch last Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-5 heartbreaker at the hands of Pacific Grove. That's two games in a row now that the Eagles have lost by exactly two runs.
Tyler Victoriano was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Ivan Chavez, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run.
Everett Alvarez now has a losing record of 8-9. As for Greenfield, their victory bumped their record up to 9-4.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Greenfield hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .326. However, it's not like Everett Alvarez struggles in that department as they've averaged .320. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Greenfield took their win against Everett Alvarez in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. Will the Bruins repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
