Football Game Preview: McComb Tigers vs. Poplarville Hornets + How To Watch

McComb is on a seven-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Poplarville is on a six-game streak of away wins (also dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Tigers will host the Hornets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. McComb's defense has only allowed 8.4 points per game this season, so Poplarville's offense will have their work cut out for them.

McComb had to skate by with only a two-point margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 33-point drubbing they dealt Hazlehurst on Friday. The Tigers blew past the Indians, posting a 47-14 victory. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won four matchups by 33 points or more so far this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead McComb to victory, but perhaps none more so than Broderick Peters, who picked up 93 receiving yards and one score, and also punched in one touchdown on the ground. Jace Jackson was another key back, rushing for 62 yards and one TD on only five carries.

Meanwhile, Poplarville unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell 28-21 to Picayune. The Hornets were up 14-0 in the first quarter but couldn't hold on to the lead.

McComb will have to contain Tylan Keys as he made an impact in Poplarville's last game. He rushed for 280 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.7 yards per carry. Keys really tore up the turf during one magnificent 74-yard run.

McComb's win bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Poplarville, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.

Friday's game might be decided on the ground. McComb has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 150.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Poplarville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 352.6 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
