Basketball Game Preview: Jefferson Wildcats vs. Shawnee Indians

The Jefferson Wildcats will venture away from home to take on the Shawnee Indians at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Jefferson is coming into the contest on a three-game losing streak.

Jefferson is headed into the match out to prove that what happened against Columbus Grove on Saturday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Jefferson came up short against Columbus Grove, falling 57-33. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 411th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 73rd).

Shawnee got their first taste of in-conference action this week and they started things off strong. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Celina 45-42.

Jefferson better focus on containing Alexis Whetstone and Cadence Wilson as the pair were huge in Shawnee's win. Whetstone went 5 of 7 on her way to 13 points, while Wilson posted 12 points and eight rebounds.

Jefferson's defeat dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Shawnee, their win bumped their record up to 5-8.

Jefferson was able to grind out a solid victory over Shawnee in their previous matchup back in January of 2024, winning 42-30. The rematch might be a little tougher for Jefferson since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
