Baseball Game Preview: Chavez Eagles vs. Arleta Mustangs

For the first time this season, Chavez will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Wednesday. They will welcome the Arleta Mustangs at 3:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Chavez 3.6, Arleta 3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

While Chavez's victory against Grant wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Chavez never let Grant get on the board and left with a 1-0 win on Monday.

The result came thanks to Xavier Salas's shutout, as he gave up just two hits and racked up eight Ks. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, Chavez's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Joey Uribe, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits Uribe has posted since back in April of 2024. Another was Cameron Cordon, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Arleta didn't have quite enough to beat Grant last Friday and fell 5-3.

Arleta dropped their record down to 2-3 with the loss, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. As for Chavez, their win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 4-3.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Chavez has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Arleta struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Chavez came out on top in a nail-biter against Arleta in their previous matchup back in February, sneaking past 1-0. Will Chavez repeat their success, or does Arleta have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
