Softball Game Preview: Amundsen Vikings vs. Payton College Prep Grizzlies

The Amundsen Vikings will head out to square off against the Payton College Prep Grizzlies at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Amundsen will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each match than the last.

Amundsen had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 19-run drubbing they dealt Clemente on Monday. The Vikings never let the Wildcats get on the board and left with a 19-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Vikings, who have now won nine games by nine runs or more so far this season.

Meanwhile, Payton College Prep came tearing into Monday's contest with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Crusaders with a sharp 13-6 win.

Johannah Kimbler made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 11 batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits (and not a single walk). Those 11 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

In other batting news, Payton College Prep got a massive performance out of Evelyn Suss, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Saya Tanabe, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Payton College Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .448. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kennedy only posted a batting average of .250.

The victory got Payton College Prep back to even at 10-10. As for Amundsen, their record now sits at 12-9.
