Basketball Recap: Flanagan-Cornell Takes a Loss

Flanagan-Cornell was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They lost 79-55 to the Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley Falcons. Flanagan-Cornell was not able to make up for their loss to Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley from their previous meeting back in January of 2024.

Despite the loss, Flanagan-Cornell still got an impressive performance from Logan Ruddy, who went 11 of 21 on his way to 31 points and five blocks. Ruddy's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Seth Jones, who posted four points along with six assists and six boards.

Even though they lost, Flanagan-Cornell smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Flanagan-Cornell's record now sits at 13-11. As for Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-9 record this season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Flanagan-Cornell will welcome Lexington at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Lexington's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four contests. As for Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Fieldcrest at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Fieldcrest knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven matches -- so hopefully Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley likes a good challenge.
