Soccer Game Preview: Stony Point vs. Vandegrift

The Stony Point Tigers will head out on the road to take on the Vandegrift Vipers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Stony Point has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the contest with three straight losses, while Vandegrift will come in with three straight victories.

Stony Point is likely headed into the matchup with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Round Rock on Friday. Stony Point took a 4-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Round Rock. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 240th, while the Dragons are ranked 104th).

Joe Hernandez and Isaiah Blake scored both of Stony Point's goals, bringing their combined season tally to 12 goals.

Meanwhile, Vandegrift kept a clean sheet against Round Rock on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Dragons with a sharp 4-0 win. The Vipers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by three goals or more this season.

Vandegrift pushed their record up to 10-1-2 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 18 goals over those four contests. As for Stony Point, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-7-1.

Stony Point suffered a grim 5-0 defeat to Vandegrift in their previous meeting back in January. Can Stony Point avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
