Softball Recap: Atchison County Drops Season-High Score on Horton

Atchison County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their 22nd straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 28-15 to the Horton Chargers. On the bright side, the 15- run performance marked the Tigers' highest-scoring matchup to date.

McKinzee Bauerle led a balanced group of hitters, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. She also hit a triple, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Mackenzie Scholz, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Atchison County's loss dropped their record down to 0-13. As for Horton, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Atchison County will venture away from home to challenge Jackson Heights at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Tigers will need to watch out since the Cobras have now posted at least ten runs in their last four contests. As for Horton, they are taking a road trip to square off against McLouth at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Bulldogs' pitching crew has only allowed one run per game this season, so the Chargers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
