Soccer Game Preview: Newcastle vs. Douglas

Newcastle hasn't had much luck against Douglas recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Dogies will take on the Bearcats at 5:00 p.m. Neither team made it on the board the last time they hit the pitch, so they've probably got a bit of extra motivation.

Newcastle is coming into the matchup fresh off a high-scoring shootout with Cody that saw the pair combine for 34 shots on goal. The Dogies lost 14-1 to the Broncs on Saturday. Newcastle were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 8-1.

Their goal came courtesy of Caden Esposito, which was the first he's scored this season.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Douglas' offense. They came up short against Cody on Tuesday, falling 7-0. The loss continues a trend for Douglas in their meetings with Cody: they've now lost eight in a row.

Douglas' defeat dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Newcastle, this is the second loss in a row for them and also nudges their season record down to 0-2.

Newcastle might still be hurting after the 4-0 loss they got from Douglas in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. Can the Dogies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
