The Decatur Central Hawks will head out to face off against the Greenwood Woodmen at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Decatur Central made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Mooresville, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Hawks fell just short of the Pioneers by a score of 5-3 on Wednesday. The Hawks have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Zach Losito was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up a single hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Losito wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Drew Dalton, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Greenwood, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They blew past Indianapolis Kings 19-0 on Monday. The Woodmen's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Like Decatur Central, Greenwood also got a great game from a two-way player: Jayden Pierce. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over five innings pitched. Those nine strikeouts gave Pierce a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, two runs, and two doubles. He also snagged a stolen base, marking his first of the season.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ethan King, who fired off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 2-for-3. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high. Waveland Goodrich was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three runs and four RBI.
Greenwood always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .639. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Indianapolis Kings only posted an OBP of .000.
Greenwood has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-5 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Decatur Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-5.
Decatur Central came up short against Greenwood when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 8-4. Can the Hawks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
