Softball Preview: West Hills Wolf Pack vs. Granite Hills Eagles

West Hills hasn't had much luck against Granite Hills recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Wolf Pack will venture away from home to take on the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. West Hills' pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Granite Hills' hitters will have their work cut out for them.

West Hills is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They put the hurt on Santana with a sharp 15-6 win on Wednesday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Wolf Pack as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.

Gianna Burgin and Ava Goodman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Burgin struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits. Meanwhile, Goodman tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Burgin has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Burgin went 3-for-4 with four RBI, while Goodman went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBI. Those four RBI gave Burgin a new career-high.

In other batting news, Kristina Deal was incredible, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Haylee Kai was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

West Hills always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .535. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Santana only posted an OBP of .364.

Granite Hills came out on top against Steele Canyon on Wednesday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run seventh inning. The Eagles never let the Cougars get on the board and left with a 5-0 win.

Steele Canyon's batters probably weren't too happy with Kaleigh Baugher, who pitched a no hitter and racked up nine Ks (she gave up three walks).

At the plate, Granite Hills got a massive performance out of Peyton Wells, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Another player making a difference was Taylor Nash, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run and two runs.

Granite Hills has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-11-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for West Hills, their record is now 11-7-1.
