Who's got the ultimate bragging rights when it comes to sending players to the NFL from the high school ranks in Illinois?

To find out, MaxPreps and Lateral Sports teamed up and found the alma mater of every player on an NFL roster as of opening day (we included suspended and injured reserve players). Then we broke it all down by state and came up with the table below.

You will find that Illinois has sent 46 players to the league this season, and that

Want some more fun facts? How about these:

- Joliet Catholic, Lane Tech and Naperville North are the only Illinois schools to have multiple alums in the NFL, with two each.

- The Indianapolis Colts lead the way when it comes to having Illinois-bred players on their roster with five. Next most are the Tennessee Titans, New Orleans Saints and New England Patriots with four each.

- The home-state Chicago Bears have two players from Illinois high schools: Cameron Meredith (wide receiver from St. Joseph) and Sherrick McManis (cornerback from Richwoods).

- Illinois is by far the home of the tight end position. An astounding nine of the 46 players play that position. That's followed by seven offensive tackles and six wide receivers. Nobody is listed as a special teams player and 35 of the 46 play on the offensive side of the ball.

- Naperville North had two future NFL tight ends on the 2008 and 2009 squads. Matt Lacosse (Giants tight end) and James O'Shaughnessy (Chiefs tight end) helped the Huskies go 10-1 in 2008 and 5-5 the next season.

- The 2009 Lane Tech squad had two future NFL big men on the roster. Laken Tomlinson (Lions guard) and Louis Trinca-Pasat (Lions defensive tackle) teamed up for a squad that only managed a 4-5 record.
