Basketball Game Preview: Modesto Christian Crusaders vs. Tracy Bulldogs

Modesto Christian has gone 10-0 against Tracy recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Modesto Christian Crusaders are taking a road trip to challenge the Tracy Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. One thing working in Modesto Christian's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.

Last Monday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Modesto Christian beat Lincoln 76-72. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Crusaders' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while the Trojans are ranked fifth).

Modesto Christian got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Gavin Sykes out in front who went 8 for 17 on his way to 26 points and seven assists. The dominant performance gave Sykes a new career-high in assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Seve Archuletta, who went 7 of 8 on his way to 16 points and seven rebounds.

Meanwhile, Tracy was fully in charge on Monday, breezing past Kimball 73-33. The Bulldogs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight contests by 20 points or more this season.

Modesto Christian pushed their record up to 13-4 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.2 points per game. As for Tracy, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-2 record this season.

Everything came up roses for Modesto Christian against Tracy when the teams last played back in January of 2024, as the team secured a 90-52 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Modesto Christian since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
