Basketball Game Preview: Smithfield-Selma Spartans vs. West Johnston Wildcats

Smithfield-Selma hasn't had much luck against West Johnston recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Smithfield-Selma Spartans will head out on the road to face off against the West Johnston Wildcats at 6:00 p.m.

Smithfield-Selma is headed into Tuesday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their ninth straight game on Friday. They were dealt a 67-19 defeat at the hands of Fike. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 555th, while the Demons are ranked 50th).

Meanwhile, West Johnston had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. In a tight game that could have gone either way, they made off with a 32-31 win over the Warriors.

Smithfield-Selma's loss dropped their record down to 1-14. As for West Johnston, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 8-9 record this season.

Smithfield-Selma was dealt a bruising 50-18 defeat at the hands of West Johnston in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can Smithfield-Selma avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
