Baseball Game Preview: Perry Panthers vs. Boardman Spartans

The Perry Panthers will face off against the Boardman Spartans at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Perry's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They walked away with a 4-0 victory over Madison.

Meanwhile, Boardman made easy work of Harding on Tuesday and carried off an 11-0 win. With that victory, the Spartans brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.

Collin Resetar made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Tyler Kirlik, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Boardman's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 6-1 (and 2-8 when he doesn't). Donovan Whippo was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.

Boardman always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Boardman has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Perry, their victory bumped their record up to 4-15.

Perry beat Boardman 5-1 in their previous meeting back in May of 2025. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Spartans turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
