Baseball Game Preview: Tatnall Hornets vs. Sanford Warriors

Tatnall hasn't had much luck against Sanford recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Hornets will take on the Warriors at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Tatnall will bounce into Thursday's matchup after beating Brandywine, who they had gone 1-6 against in their seven prior meetings. The Hornets came out on top against the Bulldogs by a score of 6-2 on Wednesday. That's two games straight that the Hornets have won by exactly four runs.

The team relied heavily on Jonathan Veghte, who scored three runs while going 3-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of Jacob Glazier, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Sanford is still undefeated this season after their game against Wilmington Friends on Tuesday, but Wilmington Friends came as close as anyone has to beating them. The Warriors sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-0 victory over the Quakers. The Warriors' pitching crew has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a run in their last three contests.

Not much got past Alex Gannon, who gave up just a hit and racked up 11 Ks to keep Wilmington Friends off the board.

At the plate, Sanford saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Owen Ripple, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. Those two RBI gave Ripple a new career-high. Cole Ruhland was another, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

The win made it two in a row for Tatnall and bumps their season record up to 2-6-1. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.5 runs over those games. As for Sanford, their win was their seventh straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-0.

Tatnall came up short against Sanford in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, falling 4-1. Can the Hornets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
