Baseball Recap: York Victorious

While York's win against St. Paul/Palmer wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Dukes sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 victory over the Wildcats on Tuesday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 10-2 back in March.

Kain Combs spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits. York is 4-2 when Combs allows three or fewer earned runs, but 6-7 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Wyatt Gartner was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Those two hits gave him a new career-high.

York now has a winning record of 10-9. As for St. Paul/Palmer, their loss dropped their record down to 8-6.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. York is set to challenge their familiar foe Holdrege at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, St. Paul/Palmer will face off against rival Aurora at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
