Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Elizabeth

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Elizabeth had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They blew past the Liberty Common Eagles 9-1. Considering the Cardinals have won 15 contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Cade Taylor spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Walker Blanchard was incredible, firing off two home runs while going 2-for-3. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high. Jeremy Waymire was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Elizabeth kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 16-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

The win (which was Elizabeth's third in a row) raised their record to 19-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Liberty Common, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-15 record this season.

Elizabeth wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, an 11-6 loss against Montezuma-Cortez on the 17th. Liberty Common does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
