Basketball Recap: Whiting Takes a Loss

Whiting was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They took a 40-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Wheeler Bearcats. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Oilers of the 55-41 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2024.

Wheeler got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Grace Renn out in front who posted 12 points. Renn is trending in the right direction considering she's improved her point production for three straight games. Another player making a difference was Izabela Schumacher, who scored eight points along with 13 rebounds and five steals.

Whiting's loss dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Wheeler, their victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 5-14.

Whiting has already played their next match (against Lighthouse College Prep Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Wheeler wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 56-23 win against Calumet New Tech on the 24th.
