Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Kellogg). They put the hurt on the St. Maries Lumberjacks with a sharp 12-1 win on Saturday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Wildcats as it put an end to their seven-game losing streak.

Talon Clark tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out six over five innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Kellogg is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 0-11 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Maddux Allen and Alex Cassidy did most of the damage at the plate: Allen got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Cassidy earned three runs and three stolen bases. Those three stolen bases gave Cassidy a new career-high. Kyle VanVleet was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs.

Kellogg always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .541. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Kellogg's win bumped their record up to 2-12. As for St. Maries, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-13 record this season.

Kellogg will have a chance to go back-to-back against St. Maries: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
