Basketball Game Preview: Marple Newtown Fightin' Tigers vs. Springfield Cougars

Marple Newtown hasn't had much luck against Springfield recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Marple Newtown Fightin' Tigers will welcome the Springfield Cougars at 7:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.

Last Tuesday, Marple Newtown was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 61-57 to Haverford. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Fightin' Tigers came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 141st, while the Fords are ranked 316th).

Springfield has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell 54-45 to Lower Merion on Tuesday.

Springfield's defeat ended a seven-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 11-5. As for Marple Newtown, their loss dropped their record down to 9-5.
