Baseball Recap: Routt Catholic Takes Down Abingdon/Avon in a Playoff Battle

It's playoff time, and Routt Catholic had no trouble coming through when it counted. They were the clear victors by a 7-0 margin over the Abingdon/Avon Tornadoes on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Rockets, who have now won 15 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

The result came thanks to Eli Olson's shutout, as he gave up just a hit and racked up ten Ks. He has been consistent: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Jace Lautemann was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Routt Catholic hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Abingdon/Avon struck out ten times.

Routt Catholic has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight games. That's provided a massive bump to their 22-12 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.1 runs over those games. As for Abingdon/Avon, their loss dropped their record down to 14-12.

Looking ahead, Routt Catholic will square off against West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs] at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Rockets 3.7, the Cougars 3.8) so any runs scored will be well earned. Abingdon/Avon does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
