Baseball Game Preview: Pleasant Grove Vikings vs. Layton Lancers

The Pleasant Grove Vikings will take on the Layton Lancers at 3:30 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Pleasant Grove has five straight victories, Layton has six straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Pleasant Grove picked up another tournament win on Saturday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 win over Arbor View.

Keaton Nordick looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits.

At the plate, Nash Bennett and Drew Smith did most of the damage at the plate: Bennett scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Smith scored two runs while going 1-for-3.

Meanwhile, Layton came up short against Bingham last Wednesday, falling 9-2.

Layton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Fish Manning, who scored a run while going 2-for-2.

Pleasant Grove's victory bumped their record up to 6-1. As for Layton, their loss dropped their record down to 0-3.

Layton's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Pleasant Grove hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .343. It's a different story for Layton, though, as they've only averaged .171. Will they be able to contain Pleasant Grove's hitters?

Pleasant Grove beat Layton 5-1 in their previous matchup back in March of 2021. Will Pleasant Grove repeat their success, or does Layton has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
