Baseball Recap: Grangeville Has No Trouble Against St. Maries

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Kendrick, Grangeville was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They blew past the St. Maries Lumberjacks 10-0. The win continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Lumberjacks: they've now won seven in a row.

David Goicoa made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. Goicoa was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on JT Jackson, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. He is becoming a predictor of Grangeville's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-9 when he doesn't). Thayn Williams was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Grangeville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. Maries only posted an OBP of .211.

Grangeville's record is now 13-9. As for St. Maries, their loss was their 11th straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-15.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Grangeville beat the Lumberjacks by a score of 5-2 later that day.
