Marian Catholic extended their winning streak to five on Monday, bumping their season record up to 8-6 in the process. They were the clear victors by a 14-6 margin over the Mahanoy Area Golden Bears. Marian Catholic might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by eight runs or more this season.
Emily Upanavage made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Upanavage was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Malina Letcher and Hailey Treskolasky did most of the damage at the plate: Letcher went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Treskolasky went 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Danica Karlick, who went 1-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Marian Catholic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 13 hits in five consecutive matches.
As for Mahanoy Area, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season. They just can't catch a break and have now endured five defeats in a row.
On Mahanoy Area's side, Naomi Kowalick made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Brode, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Marian Catholic has already played their next contest, a 7-5 loss against Schuylkill Haven on the 1st. As for Mahanoy Area, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 28-12 victory against Our Lady of Lourdes Regional on the 29th.
