Baseball Preview: De La Salle Spartans vs. California Grizzlies

De La Salle is 9-1 against California since April of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The De La Salle Spartans will be playing in front of their home fans against the California Grizzlies at 4:00 p.m. De La Salle will be looking to keep their 11-game home win streak dating back to last season alive.

De La Salle is hoping to deliver their fans another blowout on Wednesday, just like they did against Dougherty Valley (and have done all season long). De La Salle never let Dougherty Valley onto the board and left with a 6-0 victory on Tuesday.

The result came thanks to Jack Karst's shutout, as he gave up just one hit and racked up eight Ks. It was the first time this season that he pitched five or more innings.

On the hitting side, Tyler Spangler was excellent, scoring three runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan Sullivan, who went 2-for-2 with three RBI and a stolen base.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Friday California sidestepped Dougherty Valley for a 2-1 win.

Brayden Gijbels tossed a big game, pitching 6.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive pitching appearances.

At the plate, Angelo Sherman was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

De La Salle has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 11 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. As for California, the victory got them back to even at 11-11.
