Basketball Recap: Shakiya Dean's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Southwest over Central

Southwest was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They fell 44-34 to the Central Chargers. While losing is never fun, the Patriots can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 426th, while the Chargers are ranked 107th).

Southwest's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Shakiya Dean, who went 5 for 9 en route to 12 points. Another player making a difference was Janay Parker, who posted ten points.

Southwest's loss dropped their record down to 1-14. As for Central, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 17-4.

Southwest will head out on the road to challenge Bleckley County at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Central, they will welcome Academy for Classical Education at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Central has won nine straight at home, while Academy for Classical Education won eight straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
