It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Mayfield ultimately got the result they hoped for on Wednesday. They had just enough and edged out the North Rangers 9-8. The victory continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Rangers: they've now won three in a row.

Connor Mize looked comfortable as he tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits.

On the hitting side, Ben Koret was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Koret is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. JD Sega was another key player, going 2-for-4 with four RBI.

Mayfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win got Mayfield back to even at 2-2. As for North, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mayfield will head out to challenge South at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for North, they will venture away from home to take on Lake Catholic at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Cougars will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Rangers surely won't give up without a fight.
