Baseball Recap: Ashland Takes a Loss

Ashland lost against Churchill on Tuesday, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Grizzlies fell just short of the Lancers by a score of 5-4. That's two games in a row now that the Grizzlies have lost by just one run.

Freeman Rountree spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ashland saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Anthony Albano, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. Cobain Taylor also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

This is the second loss in a row for Ashland and nudges their season record down to 3-6. Even worse, they were so close both times: the defeats came by an average of only one runs. As for Churchill, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-7.

While Ashland had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
