Recap: Mayfield Panthers vs. Northville Falcons
The Mayfield Panthers were the 46-27 winner over the Northville Falcons when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. Mayfield took a 60-45 bruising from Northville on Friday. While losing is never fun, Mayfield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 316th, while Northville is ranked 134th).
Mayfield's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cloey Dopp, who scored 16 points. Dopp scored a full 35.6% of Mayfield's points, the 11th time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Abigail Chest, who scored eight points.
Mayfield now has a losing record at 5-6. As for Northville, the victory was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 7-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mayfield will take on Schoharie on Wednesday. Schoharie is coming into the game on a four-game losing streak. Northville will be staying on the road on Wednesday to face off against Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons at 5:30 p.m. on January 3, 2024.
