Basketball Recap: Brighton Comes Up Short

Brighton played a tough contest on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 65-28 loss at the hands of the Erie Tigers. The Bulldogs have struggled against the Tigers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the defeat, Brighton saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Laila Alexander posted 13 points. Those 13 points gave Alexander a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Haleyanna Martin, who put up five points.

It was another big night for Juliet Slater, who went 8-for-16 en route to 19 points along with five boards and four steals for Erie. Slater is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 11 games she's played. Oakley Spear also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Brighton's loss dropped their record down to 3-20. As for Erie, the victory was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-7.

Brighton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Erie, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Horizon at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
