Softball Game Preview: Irvington Vikings vs. James Logan Colts

Irvington hasn't had much luck against James Logan recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Vikings will look to defend their home field against the Colts at 4:00 p.m. Irvington is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.

Irvington is headed into Monday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Thursday. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of Mission San Jose.

Ixayana Vera was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. Vera was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 1-for-3.

Vera wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Maya Briones, who scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-3. Briones has been hot for a while, having posted at least one stolen base the last nine times she's played.

Meanwhile, James Logan unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Tuesday. They lost 8-1 to Castro Valley.

James Logan's loss dropped their record down to 9-2-1. As for Irvington, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-5.

Monday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Irvington has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .532. However, it's not like James Logan struggles in that department as they've averaged .435. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

Irvington might still be hurting after the 19-0 loss they got from James Logan in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Vikings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
