Basketball Recap: Cooper Berthelot's Big Game Can't Quite Lead North Kingstown over Central

North Kingstown lost against Central last Friday and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. The North Kingstown Skippers took an 85-74 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Central Knights. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Saturday (73), the Skippers still had to take the loss.

Several Skippers players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cooper Berthelot, who went 7 of 14 on his way to 21 points in addition to five assists and five boards. Berthelot continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Michael Deorsey was another key player, going 8 for 16 en route to 19 points and six rebounds.

Berthelot wasn't the only one working in the assists department: North Kingstown was working as a unit and finished the game with 23 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Central's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jonathan Ramos, who posted 28 points. With that strong performance, Ramos is now averaging an impressive 15.4 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Jahnari Jackson, who had 18 points.

North Kingstown has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-9 record this season. As for Central, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-4.

North Kingstown will head out on the road to face off against Lincoln at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lincoln has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. As for Central, they will host Portsmouth at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Central knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 14 games -- so hopefully Portsmouth likes a good challenge.
