Baseball Recap: Dakota Drops Season-High Score on Orangeville

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Dakota). They never let the Orangeville Broncos get on the board and left with a 30-0 win on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Braxton Mazurkiewicz made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in hits (three).

In other batting news, Brodie Goode was a standout: he got on base in all five of his plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and two doubles. What's more, he posted three hits, the most he's had since back in April. Aidan Blocker was another key player, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with six RBI, three runs, and one double.

Dakota was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .694. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Dakota is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 15-12 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Orangeville, they dropped their record down to 2-18 with the loss, which was their sixth straight at home.

Looking ahead, Dakota will challenge Durand/Pecatonica at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Orangeville, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Indian Creek at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Broncos are facing the Timberwolves at the right time seeing as the Timberwolves are stuck on a 20-game losing streak.
